Noteworthy that the FBI and criminologists as a whole estimate an 8% rate of false accusations, and that only takes into account accusations that make it all the way to a police investigation and are found to be unfounded. Thus, the 8% false accusations statistic doesn't include: accusations made on social media or in the rumormill, women who decline to press criminal charges, women who go to the police but whose accusations are not found to merit investigate in the first place, cases that are investigated by the police but don't turn up enough evidence to indict (this number alone is estimated at 25%-50% of such cases), nor cases that make it all the way to trial in which the accused is found Not Guilty. This means that, the next time you hear a rumor that some guy at work is a rapist, you should be aware that there is at the very least an 8% (1 out of 15) likelihood that he's been falsely accused, as high as 50% if one includes the number of cases in which the DA declines to prosecute.
